The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the shooting of a DC police detective who was injured in the line of duty this afternoon while in the vicinity of 7th and Irving Streets, NE.
At approximately 1:20 pm on Friday, February 15, 2008, members of the United States Marshals Service’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to serve a paternity related arrest warrant while in the 3100 block of 7th Street, NE. At that time, one of the law enforcement officers was shot in the face.
The injured detective was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released for a non-life-threatening gunshot graze wound. He is identified as 37-year-old Antonio Duncan, a 14-year-veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Members of the department’s Emergency Response Team, as well as police officers assigned to other Metropolitan Police Department districts, responded to the scene of the shooting and assisted with the search for the gunman.
During the course of the search, the suspect wanted in connection with the paternity related arrest warrant was located and taken into custody without incident. He is identified as 36-year-old Dorian Maurice Ray, of the 600 block of Hamlin Street, NE. Ray has NOT been charged with the shooting of Detective Duncan.
