Yesterday beginning at 9:00 am, the Metropolitan Police Departments Major Narcotics Branch executed ten search warrants in the Arthur Capper Public Housing Complex, bounded by Virginia Avenue to M Street and Second to Fifth Streets, SE.
The searches were conducted as the result of an ongoing joint investigation into illegal narcotics distribution in District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) properties. Assistance was also provided by the Metropolitan Police Departments Emergency Response Team; the District of Columbia Housing Authority Police; the Drug Enforcement Administration; and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
As the result of the execution of the search warrants, six adults were arrested for multiple drug-related charges, including Controlled Substance Act (CSA) - Distribution of Cocaine; CSA - Distribution of Heroin; Possession With the Intent to Distribute (PWID) Cocaine; PWID Heroin; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Two replica handguns, ammunition, $500 in U.S. currency and quantities of heroin and cocaine with an estimated street value of $3,600 were also seized.
Thus far as the result of this fourteen-month-long ongoing investigation, a total of 25 search warrants have been executed in two public housing projects, and 35 have been arrested and charged with crimes associated with distribution of illicit narcotics. Additionally, more than 259 grams of heroin; 80 grams of crack cocaine; two replica handguns; two 9mm magazines and multiple rounds of ammunition; and $35,510 in U.S. currency has been recovered.
