Shortly before 10 pm on Friday, April 18, 2008, an off duty First District detective heard gunshots in the vicinity of Saratoga Avenue and Brentwood Road, NE. He investigated and found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs in the 1200 block of Brentwood Road, NE. The detective rendered aid, interviewed the victim and provided a look for a vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of apparently non-life-threatening injuries.
Fifth District officers working in the area were dispatched and observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. They apprehended three suspects who have been charged with Assault With Intent to Kill while Armed.
The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Darnell Anderson, of the 1200 block of N Street, NW, Robert Lee Davenport, of the 1700 block of Montello Avenue, NE, and 22-year-old Obie English, of the 2900 block of Mills Avenue, NE. They were arraigned today in D.C. Superior Court.
“The arrest of these three individuals is the result of good police work and of our stepped up efforts to combat crime in the Fifth District,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “The arrests send a clear message to criminals that we will remain vigilant in our efforts to bring the perpetrators of violence to justice. The community should be reminded that we are committed to keeping dangerous offenders off our streets and making our neighborhoods a safe place to live.”
In addition, the Department has now obtained a warrant in reference to the murder of Tonette Gail Ferguson, which occurred on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in the 1600 block of Montello Avenue, NE.
The suspect is identified as Oliver Jones. He is described as a medium complexioned black male, 50 years of age, 5’11” in height, weighing about 200 pounds, with light facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jean shorts, black shoes, and dark sunglasses.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Oliver Jones should take no direct action, but contact police at 202-727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIM[E]. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
