Pedestrian Struck on Minnesota Ave, NE

On Friday, April 18, 2008, at approximately 8:44 pm, a female pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing the street in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, NE.

Reportedly, 54-year-old Sheila Marie Jenkins, of the unit block of D.C. Village Lane, SW, accompanied by a teenage female companion, disembarked from a northbound WMATA Metrobus in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, NE.  Apparently, without looking she and her companion walked in front of the stopped bus and ran across Minnesota Avenue in an attempt to catch a stopped southbound WMATA Metrobus.  Consequently, Ms. Jenkins was struck by a northbound 2008 Nissan Quest.  The operator of the vehicle remained on the scene.

Ms. Jenkins was transported by D.C. Fire Department ambulance to Prince George’s County Hospital Center where she was admitted in critical condition for treatment of  severe head trauma.

The accident is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.  Preliminarily, it appears that the cause of the accident was due to pedestrian error. However, the investigation is ongoing.
