At 12:30 on the afternoon of Monday, May 12, 2008, Hawk One Security Special Police Officers (SPO’s) working at the Henry J. Daly Municipal Center detained an armed suspect. At the time, the suspect was trying to enter the C Street entrance to the building when the SPO’s detected a handgun inside of his attaché case via an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint. The municipal center, which houses offices for several government agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department, the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, and the Bureau of Traffic Adjudication, has two addresses: 301 C Street, NW and 300 Indiana Avenue, NW.
Hawk One Security SPO’s seized a loaded handgun and arrested 60-year-old James Rex Williams, of the 2100 block of M Street, NE. Subsequently, Williams was transported to the First District stationhouse, located at 415 4th Street, SW, for processing.
Williams faces possible charges that include Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Unregistered Firearm, and Unregistered Ammunition.
Noting the Thursday, February 21, 2008 arrest of a Reston woman who entered the municipal center and attempted to take the sidearm of a Hawk One Security SPO, Chief of Police Cathy L. Lanier stated, “Due to the outstanding work of our security personnel here at the Henry J Daly building, this is the second time this year a potentially violent person has been neutralized. I commend Hawk One Security personnel for their vigilance.”
