At approximately 10:32 pm, Monday, May 26, 2008, officers from the Sixth District responded to the 5200 block of Central Avenue, SE for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located 45-year-old Calvin Eugene Starks Sr, of the same address, suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Subsequently the same day, the case was closed with the arrest of 51-year-old John Lewis Middleton, also of the same address. He was charged with Murder II while Armed in connection with the murder of Mr. Starks.
