Police Seek to Identify Body Pulled from Potomac River

The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a woman pulled from the Potomac River.  The body was discovered floating face down by a boater in the vicinity of Fletcher’s Boat House at about 1:00 on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 4, 2008.  Subsequently, the boater summoned assistance.  Members of the department’s Harbor Branch responded to the scene and divers pulled the body from the water near Jack’s Boat House, located in the 3500 block of Water Street, NW.   The body is now at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.  The case is currently under investigation by members of the Chief Medial Examiner’s Office and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch.

The body appears to be that of a white female, approximately 40 years old, 5’4” tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown shoulder length hair.  The decedent was wearing pearl earrings, a silver wristwatch, black pants, a light colored shirt, black and white tennis shoes, and a small black colored back pack containing a tan colored raincoat.

Anyone who may know the identity of the decedent is asked to call 202-727-9099 or the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner at 202-698-9000.
