Body Pulled from the Potomac River Identified

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s  Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch have identified the body of a woman that was pulled from the Potomac River on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.  The decedent has been identified as 47-year-old Helen Johnstone, of the 4800 block of MacArthur Boulevard,   NW.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at approximately 1 pm, Helen Johnstone was discovered floating face down by a boater in the vicinity of Fletcher’s Boat House. Subsequently, the boater summoned assistance. Members of the department’s Harbor Branch responded to the scene and divers pulled the body from the water near Jack’s Boat House, located in the 3500 block of Water Street, NW. The body is now at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.  The ruling by the Medical Examiner’s Office is still pending.
