Traffic Fatality at East Capitol Street and Central Avenue, SE

Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal traffic accident which occurred early yesterday morning at the intersection of East Capitol Street and Central Avenue, SE.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, June 7, 2008, the operator of a stolen 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan that was evidently traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound in the 4900 block of East Capitol Street, SE collided with a 2006 Dodge Charger that was traveling northwest bound in the 4900 block of Central Avenue, SE.  Consequently, the operator of the Charger, who has been identified as 36-year-old Jermaine L. Acklin, of the 5000 block of Call Place, SE, was transported by DCFD ambulance to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedSTAR Unit where he was pronounced dead at 1:03 am.

The operator of the stolen Dodge Caravan and his passenger failed to aid the injured or make their identities known and fled the scene on foot.  There injuries, if any, are unknown.
