Neighborhood Safety Zone Checkpoints in Trinidad Have Concluded

This is to advise the media that the Neighborhood Safety Zone (NSZ) checkpoints in Trinidad concluded at 5 pm today.  All other enforcement efforts which have been in place in Trinidad since April will remain in effect to deter violent crime.

The NSZ was established in Trinidad on Saturday, June 7, 2008.  The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) conducted 10 checkpoints.  More than 700 vehicles entered the NSZ; 46 vehicles were prohibited from driving through.  Officials arrested one driver for possessing an open container of alcohol.  There were no shootings in Trinidad while the NSZ was in place.

The MPD wishes to thank the residents of Trinidad for their cooperation and patience while the NSZ checkpoints were in effect.
