The Metropolitan Police Department wishes to advise the public that several major events will take place in the District of Columbia during the weekend of Saturday, June 14, through Sunday, June 15, 2008. In order to accommodate these events and the large attendance, several street closures will be in effect. Motorists traveling in the areas of these events during the times indicated below may experience delays and are asked to use alternative routes if feasible. Motorists, as always, are reminded to exercise extreme care when driving and to be cautious of all pedestrian activity.
• HOOP DREAMS EVENT STREET CLOSINGS
Date: Friday, June 13 to Saturday, June 14, 2008
Road closures: to begin at 8:30 pm on Friday, June 13, 2008 through Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 9 pm.
Location: Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 6th Street, 4th Street from Madison Drive to Pennsylvania Avenue, Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to 6th Street, NW.
• CAPITAL PRIDE PARADE ROUTE
Date: Saturday, June 14, 2008
Parade will form at 6:30 pm at Francis Junior High School at 24th and N Streets and will proceed east on P Street to Dupont Circle, north around Dupont Circle to New Hampshire Avenue, northeast on New Hampshire Avenue to R Street, east on R Street to 17th Street, south on 17th Street to P Street, east on P Street to 14th Street, south on 14th Street to N Street.
• CAPITAL PRIDE FESTIVAL STREET CLOSINGS
Date: Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 15, 2008
Road closures: to begin at 9 pm Saturday, June 14 through Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 10 pm.
Location: Pennsylvania Avenue NW from 3rd Street to 6th Street NW.
• 18TH ANNUAL LAWYERS HAVE HEART 10K STREET CLOSINGS
Date: Saturday, June 14th, 2008
Road closures: to begin at 6 am on Saturday, June 14, 2008
Locations:
• Canal Road, NW, between Foxhall Road and Reservoir Road from 6 a.m. until 11 am.
• Traffic will only be able to travel on the north side of Canal Road westbound between Whitehurst Freeway and Foxhall Road.
• Foxhall Road, NW, (southeast bound lane only) will be closed from MacArthur Boulevard to Canal Road.
• Whitehurst Freeway will be closed from 7:30 am until 9:30 am.
• K Street, NW between Wisconsin Ave. and 27th Street will be closed from 6 a.m. until 11 am.
Traffic coming from the Chain Bridge into the District of Columbia will be diverted onto Arizona Avenue NW, MacArthur Boulevard NW and Reservoir Road NW. Traffic coming from the Key Bridge will be able to go right into Georgetown on M Street NW or left onto Canal Road (runners will stay in the south eastbound lane) to Foxhall Road NW.
