Homicide in the 2400 Block of 9th Street, NW

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch are investigating the death of a 47-year-old female found last night in the 2400 block of 9th Street, NW.

At approximately 10:30 pm, on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, members of the Third District responded to a local hospital for the report of a female shot. Upon arrival, officers located 47-year-old Barbara A. Carl, of the 600 block of Poplar Drive, in Falls Church, Virginia, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and another adult were seated inside a vehicle parked in the 2400 block of 9th Street, NW. When a group of suspects began shooting at the vehicle, striking the victim on the chest.

The identity of the second occupant, who is a potential witness in the case, is being withheld at this time.

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
