The Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the November 2007 homicide of Melvin Lucas. On Monday, July 28, 2008, at approximately 9 am, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 35-year-old Alfred Thompson in Southeast Washington.  He has been with charged Murder Two While Armed in connection with the death of Melvin Lucas.

At approximately 5:43 am, on Monday, November 26, 2007, an investigation determined that 46-year-old Melvin Lucas of Lorton, Virginia had been the victim of a fatal shooting in the 4300 block of Wheeler Road, SE.

The United States Marshals Service led Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force consists of members from various local and Federal agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Corrections.
