Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are conducting an ongoing investigation into a fatal traffic accident which occurred in the 1800 block of West Virginia Avenue, NE.
On Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at approximately 10:51 pm, a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL that evidently was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on West Virginia Avenue, NE reportedly passed through a solid yellow light at the intersection of Mt. Olivet Road and West Virginia Avenue, NE. Consequently, the Acura struck a pedestrian who was walking southbound across the 1800 block West Virginia Avenue, NE.
The pedestrian, who has been identified as 65-year-old Clarence Ford Jr., of no fixed address, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 pm.
The driver fled the scene of the accident and a short time later was stopped and arrested in the 1700 block of Montana Avenue NE. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Lamont N. Goodwin, of Northeast, Washington, DC has been charged with Leaving After Colliding, DWI, and Involuntary Manslaughter.
