Investigators assigned to the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred at 19th Street and Virginia Avenue, NW.
At approximately 8:15 pm, Friday, September 26, 2008, a 2002 Dodge Caravan taxicab was traveling southbound on 19th Street and entered the intersection of Virginia Avenue, NW. While in the intersection, the taxi was struck by a WMATA Metro bus that was traveling westbound on Virginia Avenue, NW, which caused the taxi to rotate before coming to a final stop at the intersection. The Metro bus continued through the intersection and mounted the grassy area on the grounds of the Federal Reserve Building, located at Virginia Avenue and C Street, NW.
A passsenger in the taxi was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The decedent has been identified as 55-year-old Bartlett M. Tabor, of the 1600 block of Diablo Vista Road in Alamo, California.
The other occupants of the taxi were transported to area hospitals for treatment and later released.
The circumstances surrounding this traffic fatality remain under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
