The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that a suspect was quickly apprehended following the commission of an armed robbery. The suspect, who has been identified as 25-year-old Curtis Lee of Northeast Washington, was placed under arrest without incident in the 1100 block of U Street, NW, while attempting to hide in the restroom of a business establishment at that location. A handgun was also recovered on the scene of this arrest. Mr. Lee has been charged with Robbery While Armed (Gun) and is scheduled to be arraigned in DC Superior Court today.
At approximately 8:38 pm on Friday, October 10, 2008, two adult males reported to police that while walking in the 2200 block of 12th Street, NW, they were approached by a subject who produced a handgun and subsequently demanded money from the victims. Upon obtaining money, the subject attempted to flee the scene on foot before being apprehended.
There were no apparent physical injuries to the victims whose identities are being withheld as they are considered to be witnesses in this case.
The investigation into any possible links with respect to other robberies which have been committed in the Adams Morgan and U Street areas remains ongoing.
