Traffic Fatality in the 2000 Block of Franklin Street, NE

Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal traffic collision which occurred on Franklin Street, NE.

At approximately 1:56 pm, on Monday, October 13, 2008, a 2007 Honda CH80 Elite Scooter was traveling westbound in the 2000 block of Franklin Street, NE, when it reportedly mounted a curb and struck a utility pole. The operator who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision was transported to an area hospital by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel. A short time later he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:45 pm.

The decedent in this case has been identified as 50-year-old James Michael Hughes of the 2900 block of 14th Street, NE.

The circumstances surrounding this traffic fatality remain under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
