Arrest Made in the Shooting of a 13-year-old Girl

Metropolitan Police announced today the arrest of a 15-year-old juvenile male in connection with the shooting of a 13-year-old girl. The shooting occurred in the 400 block of 51st Street, NE.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at approximately 8:30 pm a 13-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to her torso area. She was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 23, 2008, Sixth District detectives arrested and charged the 15-year-old suspect in Northeast DC. He faces charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – Gun, Armed Carjacking, Robbery Force and Violence, and Carrying a Pistol Without a License.

“Thanks to the community’s help, MPD was able to make a quick arrest,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier.  “This is just another example of the senseless violence that occurs in our city.  The round the clock work of detectives on this case has prevented other senseless acts of violence and retaliation.”

The case is being handled by the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
