Traffic Fatality on Southern Avenue, SE

Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal traffic collision which occurred on Southern Avenue, SE.

At approximately 2:35 am, on Saturday, November 8, 2008, a 1990 Oldsmobile Regency 98 was traveling southbound in the 5100 block of Southern Avenue, SE, when it reportedly struck the rear of a 2005 Stoughton semi-trailer, which was parked along the west curb. The collision reportedly caused the Oldsmobile to set on fire. The operator, who was not yet identified, was pronounced dead on the scene by a representative from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for the District of Columbia.

The circumstances surrounding this traffic fatality remain under investigation by investigators assigned to the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
