Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Metropolitan Police Department announced today the arrest of a 26-year-old Maryland man in connection with three bank robberies that were committed in the District.
Dewayne Anthony Edwards of the 7800 block of Goldfield Court in Clinton, MD, faces charges of armed bank robbery. While executing a search warrant at Edwards’ home, the FBI/MPD Bank Robbery Task Force recovered three firearms, clothing items and other evidence linking Edwards to the robberies. Authorities also recovered evidence related to a bank robbery committed in Prince George’s County.
“Today’s announcement illustrates the dedication and tireless efforts of our FBI/MPD Bank Robbery Task Force,” said Joseph Persichini, Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office. “It is another endorsement of law enforcement partners joining resources and personnel to get the job done.”
“The closure of these bank robbery cases is another example of the positive cooperation between MPD and the FBI in making our community a safer place to live, work, and visit,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier.
The robberies occurred at two banks on the following dates:
April 7, 2008: Adams National Bank in the 1700 block of Wisconsin Ave., NW
August 28, 2008: Adams National Bank in the 1700 block of Wisconsin Ave., NW
September 29, 2008: National Capital Bank in the 5200 block of 44th Street, NW
