Homicide in the 600 Block of Kenyon Street, NW

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a homicide which occurred in the 600 block of Kenyon Street, NW.

At approximately 8:14 am, Thursday, December 11, 2008, members of the Third District responded for the report of shooting in the 600 block of Kenyon Street, NW.  Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive lying in the foyer area of a house, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Also, a 5-year-old child, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Members of the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded to the scene to provide medical aid to the victims.  The adult male was pronounced dead on the scene by members of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia. He has been identified as 37-year-old Franklin Johnson, of the 1400 block of Parkwood Place, NW. The decedent's remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia pending an autopsy. The child was taken to a local area hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds and admitted in stable condition

The identity of the second victim is being withheld at this time, because the second victim is potential witnesses in the case.

This case remains under investigation by detectives from the department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIM [E].

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to D.C. Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS and to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
