Homicide in the 1600 Block of 11th Street, NW

Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 1600 block of 11th Street, NW.

At approximately 3:05 am, on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, members of the department’s Third District and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded to the 1600 block of 11th Street, NW for the report of sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they located 35-year-old Durval V. Martins, of the 200 block of Bates Street, NW, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body lying on the street. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $50,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to D.C. Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS and to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

The reward in this case has been increased to up to $50,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the homicide of Durval V. Martins. The original release has been changed to reflect this.
