The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the April 2008 homicide of Gary Oliver English. On Monday, December 22, 2008, at approximately 11:40 am, 26-year-old James C. Bates of Northwest Washington, DC was arrested by members of the Fugitive Task Force pursuant to an arrest warrant charging him with Murder I While Armed in the homicide of Mr. English.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at approximately 5:40 pm, police were called to the 2000 block of Lincoln Road, NE to investigate the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they located 34-year-old Gary Oliver English, of the 2000 block of Lincoln Road, NE, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel responded to the scene and transported Mr. English to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim was also found suffering from an apparent graze wound to the body. He was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. His identity is being withheld because he is a witness in this case.
