Second Suspect Charged in Gary English Murder Case

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that a second suspect has been charged in connection with the April 15, 2008 fatal shooting of Gary English. At approximately 10:00 am, on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, 27-year-old Joseph A. Jenkins, of Northwest, DC, was charged with Murder One While Armed pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.      

On Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at approximately 5:40 pm, police were called to the 2000 block of Lincoln Road, NE, for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, police located 34-year-old Gary Oliver English, of the 2000 block of Lincoln Road, NE, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was subsequently transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

A second victim was also found suffering from an apparent graze wound to the body. He was transported to an area hospital and released. His identity is being withheld at this time, because he is considered a witness in this case. 

On Monday, December 22, 2008, at approximately 11:40 am, 26-year-old James C. Bates of Northwest Washington, DC was arrested by members of the Fugitive Task Force pursuant to an arrest warrant charging him with Murder I While Armed in the homicide of Mr. English.
