Suspicious Vehicles in the 3200 Block of Connecticut Avenue, NW

The Metropolitan Police Department has now physically cleared the scene of the investigation of two suspicious vehicles earlier this morning in the 3200 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW.  That on scene investigation concluded Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at approximately 9:15 am with no apparent hazardous materials or items associated with either vehicle in question.

At approximately 4:45 am on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, police were called to the 3200 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW, for the report of a vehicle left unattended blocking the southbound lane of traffic at that location.  Officers immediately began an investigation in the attempt to locate the operator, who it was learned may have been under possible duress.  While conducting that investigation, attention was directed towards another unoccupied vehicle after the possible presence of suspicious materials was detected by a bomb dog on the scene.  That vehicle, which appeared to be a commercial type van, was subsequently checked with no hazardous materials found.

The owner of the first vehicle in question was located apparently unharmed and that vehicle was subsequently moved.

During the course of the investigation of these two vehicles, streets were closed as a matter of precaution until it could be determined that the vehicles in question presented no danger to the general public. The Metropolitan Police Department wishes to thank the public for their cooperation and patience during the course of this investigation.
