Third Arrest Made in the Spevak Murder Case

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that a third arrest has been made in the November 2008 murders of Dr. Michael Spevak and his wife Virginia Sager Spevak.

On Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 5:40 p.m., 21-year-old Jose Gilberto Portillo of Northwest, Washington, DC was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Felony Murder While Armed in the November 22, 2008, murders of Michael and Virginia Spevak of the 5300 block of Belt Road, NW.  Two people were previously arrested in November.

On Saturday, November 22, 2008, at approximately 8:30 pm, members of the Second District responded to the Spevak residence, for a radio assignment to check on the welfare of two residents.

Upon their arrival, authorities located Dr. Spevak, age 68, and Virginia Spevak, age 67.  Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
