Arrest Made in Dennis Weeden Murder Case

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the murder of Dennis Weeden, who was attacked in the 300 block of Delafield Place, NW on Saturday, July 5, 2008, but did not succumb to his injuries until Monday, February 2, 2009.  On Monday, March 30, 2009, 28-year-old Carl Bradford of Southeast Washington, DC, who previously had been charged with assaulting Mr. Weeden, was charged with Murder II pursuant to an arrest warrant.

On Saturday, July 5, 2008, at approximately 3:43 pm, officers of the Fourth District responded to investigate the report of an assault at 337 Delafield Place, NW.  Upon arrival, they located an assault victim in an unconscious state in the rear of that location.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim, identified as 59-year-old Dennis Weeden of the Delafield Place address, to a local hospital.  At that time, officers located the suspect in the assault and placed him under arrest.

Mr. Weeden remained in an unconscious and vegetative state since the date of the assault.  He was eventually received at the Specialty Hospital of Washington and was pronounced dead on February 3, 2009.  The decedent's remains were then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia for an autopsy.  On February 5, 2009, the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death was blunt force impact trauma and ruled the manner of death homicide.
