The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of 34-year-old Tyrone Wheaten who was fatally stabbed in the 2400 block of Elvans Road, SE. The suspect in this case has been identified as 38-year-old Troy Richardson of Southeast Washington. He has been charged with Murder One While Armed in connection with this case.
At approximately 6:05 pm on Sunday, May 17, 2009, members assigned to the Department’s Seventh District responded to the 2400 block of Elvans Road, SE, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Wheaten inside of his apartment suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported Mr. Wheaton to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A subsequent investigation, later that evening by detectives from the Department’s Homicide Branch and members from the Seventh District, determined that Mr. Richardson had reportedly stabbed the decedent and then fled, barricading himself inside of his own apartment at the above location. Member’s from the Department’s Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and were able to successfully remove the suspect from the apartment and take him into custody.
