Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal industrial incident in which a worker on a construction project was struck by a street sweeper on Friday, May 29, 2009.

The decedent has been identified as 48-year-old Dominga Rodriguez of the 3900 block of Perry Street in Brentwood, Md.

At approximately 11:10 pm on Friday, May 29, 2009, Mrs. Rodriguez was working a pavement resurfacing project at southbound I-395 near the Maine Avenue SW exit ramp. She was directing westbound traffic on the inside edge of the unpaved roadway, when she was struck and run over by a street sweeper that was being operated by a co-worker who did not see her. The co-worker was backing the machine to clear shredded asphalt and debris from the roadway.

Mrs. Rodriguez was transported to an area hospital with serious head trauma. She was pronounced dead at approximately 12:11 am on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

The co-worker was not injured as a result of the incident. An investigation is continuing.
