Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are currently investigating a homicide which occurred in the 4300 block of 4th Street, SE.
Shortly before 9 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, units from the Seventh District responded to the 4300 block of 4th Street, SE, to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located 40-year-old Arvell Stewart Alston of Temple Hills, Maryland, lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Mr. Alston to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 pm.
A second victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds was located and transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The identity of this victim is being withheld because they are considered a witness in this case.
The preliminary investigation into this case revealed that this homicide may have occurred as a result of an armed carjacking. This case remains under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
