Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the rightful owner of a substantial baseball card collection.
On June 24, 2010, a large number (more than five hundred) of baseball cards was found in a grassy area in East Potomac Park near the Tennis Center. The person who found the cards recognized their potential value and notified the police who recovered the items as found property. Thus far, the Police Department has been unsuccessful in locating the collection’s owner.
Photographs of a portion of the collection are attached, which show Topps® and Fleer® cards from the early 1980s and a variety of teams. There are additional years and varieties that are part of the overall collection, but they will have to be specified by the claimant, who will also have to provide additional information to further identify the scope of the collection.
The Property Clerk shall make the final determination as to ownership. In the case that there is more than one claimant, a hearing will be held by the clerk to determine ownership.
Any persons who knows or has information as to who lost a collection of baseball cards, or had theirs stolen should contact the Public Information Office on (202) 727-4383 between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
