At approximately 7:19 on the morning of Monday, March 29, 1999, police were summoned to the rear of 1107 Trenton Place, SE to investigate the report of a man down. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DCFD emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene, but they could find no life signs.
The victim, who has been identified as 20-year-old Maurice Haywood, of the 3600 block of 6th Street, SE, was transported by morgue wagon to the D.C. Medical Examiner's Office where he was officially pronounced dead at 9:56 am.
