Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in the death of two juveniles.
On Friday, August 12, 2011, at approximately 4:15 am, a 2004 Mercedes-Benz, lost control in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast, and struck a utility pole causing the car to catch fire. Officers and personnel from DC Fire Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and removed the two trapped occupants. However it was subsequently determined that the occupants in the vehicle had no signs consistent with life. They were later pronounced dead by a representative from the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The decedent’s identities have been withheld pending positive identification and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
