Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit have announced that an arrest has been made in a sexual assault which occurred in the 2200 block of 12th Street, NW.
On Monday, December 20, 2010, at approximately 4:00 am, units from the Third District responded to the 2200 block of 12th Street for the report of a Sexual Assault. Upon arriving on the scene, officers interviewed the victim who reported she was entering her residence, when a male subject approached her from behind brandishing a knife. The subject demanded money from the victim. After learning, she did not have any. The male subject sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was only able to provide a general description of the subject. However, further forensic follow up based on DNA evidence lead to the identification of the subject in this assault.
On Thursday, May 31, 2012, at approximately 1:45 pm, members the Capital Area Fugitive Task Force arrested 40-year-old Cardell Torney of NW, pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged him with First Degree Sexual Abuse.
