Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred in the intersection of New York Avenue and New Jersey Avenue, NW.

On Saturday, June 23, 2012, units from the First District responded to a pedestrian traffic collision with injury which occurred at approximately 10:59 am at the intersection of New York Avenue and New Jersey Avenue, NW.  Upon arriving, they located a female pedestrian suffering from injuries that were sustained from an auto accident.  The preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota Sienna was westbound on New York NW and entered into the intersection of New York Ave NW and New Jersey Ave.   The northbound Acura collided with the Sienna as it entered the intersection.  After impact, the Sienna was redirected and collided with a pedestrian that was crossing south from the northwest corner of the intersection within the crosswalk area on the west side of the intersection. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at approximately 11:06 am, the pedestrian subsequently succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. 

The decedent has been identified as 83 year-old Theresa Whitley of Northwest, Washington, DC.

The investigation is ongoing.
