Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth Division have announced that an arrest has been made in the sexual assault which occurred in 2003.
On Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Allison Street, NW an adult male approached a juvenile female, produced a knife, and forced her to engage in sexual acts.
In February of 2012, the Metropolitan Police Department received an investigative lead from the FBI which linked a suspect by DNA to the 2003 sexual assault which occurred at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Allison Street, NW.
On Thursday, July 26, 2012, at approximately 9:45 am, members from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 38 year-old Anthony Lamont Burns of Northwest, DC pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged him with First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Chief of Police Cathy L. Lanier said, “I commend the detectives for their tireless efforts in investigating this case and I am pleased with the commitment of the collective law enforcement community, which continues to bring sex offenders to justice and helps bring closure to the victims.”
“This arrest represents the dedicated efforts of Deputy U.S. Marshals and law enforcement partners assigned to our task force,” said Edwin D. Sloane, United States Marshal for the District of Columbia.
