At approximately 5:25 pm
on Thursday, November 26, 1998, a woman in an unconscious condition
was discovered inside of the Mount Vernon Square Metro Station located
at 7th and M Streets, NW. The woman was observed by an employee of the
Metro Transit System at the bottom of an escalator in the mezzanine
area of that station. At the time she was discovered it appeared that
parts of the woman's clothing may have somehow become caught in the
escalator. Officers from the department's Third
District arrived moments later and freed the woman from the escalator.
The woman was subsequently transported by D.C.F.D. personnel to Howard
University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:08 pm.
The woman remains unidentified
at this time and police are asking anyone with possible information
in this case to contact the department's Homicide Division at 202-727-4347.
The victim is described as an adult black female who at the time of
her death was wearing gray pants, a black jacket and a blue sweater.
The cause of death in this case will be determined pending an autopsy
to be conducted by the D.C. Medical Examiner's Office. This case remains
under active investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police
Department.
UPDATE: The victim
in this case has been identified as 37-year-old Glenda Weeks-King.
Her last known address was in Hyattsville, Maryland, but she had no
fixed address at the time of her death.
