Arrest Made in Connection with Carey Brock Murder Case

A subsequent investigation conducted by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department resulted in the issuance of a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant charging 20-year-old Royal Mathis with First Degree Murder While Armed. Earlier today, members from the Seventh District received information Mr. Mathis was in the unit block of Forrester Street, SW.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department and the MPD/FBI Task Force were able to locate the suspect in a vehicle at Forrester Street, however, he attempted to evade arrest. The suspect's vehicle, described as a late model Grand Marquis, struck an unmarked law enforcement vehicle at the intersection of Forrester Street and Martin Luther King, Jr., Avenue, S.W. The suspect continued to flee and subsequently his vehicle was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Chesapeake Street and Martin Luther King Jr, Avenue, S.W. Mr. Mathis then fled on foot and a brief foot pursuit ensued. He was apprehended without further incident when he was discovered hiding inside of a truck in the 4200 block of Martin Luther King Jr, Avenue S.W. behind M.V. Leckie Elementary School.

Mr. Mathis is from the 1600 block of Potomac Avenue, SE. He has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in D.C. Superior Court.
