Shortly before 10:00 pm on February 5th, two suspects forced entry into the Hughes Mews address when one of the residents answered a knock on the door. At one point during the forcible entry, one of the suspects fired one round from a handgun, which did not result in injury. One of the suspects grabbed the resident and demanded money. The resident complied, but the suspects were not satisfied. One of the suspects then grabbed the resident and pushed him up the stairs where the suspect robbed another resident. The suspects obtained a small amount of currency then fled on foot.
As the result of his investigation, Second District Detective Dave Edelstein identified the alleged gunman and obtained an arrest warrant charging the suspect with Burglary I While Armed. The suspect, 18-year-old Ricky Rufus Kelly, Jr., of the 2300 block of Green Street, SE, was arrested at 10:30 this morning at the Marshall's cell block after being brought there on a come-up order.
Kelly, who was a juvenile at the time of the offense, is being charged as an adult under Title 16 of the D.C. Code. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in D.C. Superior Court.
The investigation into this case is ongoing.
