Shortly after 1:00 on the morning July 24, 1999, police and DCFD emergency medical technicians responded to the front of 3519 Stanton Road, SE for the report of shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim, who has been identified as 50-year-old Sammie Simpkins, of the 3500 block of Jay Street, NE, was transported to D.C. General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:50 am.
The case is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District .
