Fatal Shooting on Southern Avenue, SE

On Thursday, December 24, 1998, Prince George's County Police responded to the call of a shooting. Upon arrival, an unidentified male was found at 4171 Southern Avenue, Capitol Heights Maryland, suffering from two gunshot wounds to the left leg.

The victim, who has been identified as 25-year-old Harvey Redfern of the 4100 block of Vine Street, Capitol Heights, Maryland, was transported to the Greater Southeast Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:55 am.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was shot in the District of Columbia and ran into Maryland for assistance.

This case is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. Anyone having information is asked to call the Homicide Branch at (202) 727-4347 or the DC Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777.

All calls to the Crime Solvers Unit are confidential and a caller need not give his or her name. A caller who provides information through the Crime Solvers Unit which leads to an arrest and indictment in this case will be eligible for a reward of up to ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
