Today Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey announced the promotion of Inspector Shannon P. Cockett, who has been the acting commander of the Second District for several months. She has now been elevated to the rank of commander and replaces retiring Jacqueline Barnes as the commander of the Second District.
Commander Cockett was appointed to the department on December 14, 1981. During her career, she has served in the following capacities:
- Officer assigned to the Fifth District and the Public Information Office
- Sergeant assigned to the Fifth District
- Lieutenant assigned to the Third District and the homicide branch
- Captain assigned to the Second District
- Inspector assigned to the Second District
Chief Ramsey said, "I am confident that Commander Cockett will continue to benefit the Metropolitan Police Department and the people it serves."
