On June 22, 2000, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a bicyclist was fatally injured in a vehicular accident that occurred in the 3100 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE.

The accident occurred when the operator of a Honda Civic coupe parked at the curbed opened the driver's side door and the bicyclist, who was travelling eastbound on Rhode Island Avenue, collided with it. The bicyclist fell onto the roadway and was run over by an eastbound Honda Civic sedan.

The bicyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her next-of-kin, was transported to the Washington Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead at12: 17 a.m. on Friday, June 23rd.

The accident is under investigation by members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Investigations Unit.
