On Saturday, June 25, 2005, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police were called to Minnesota Avenue and Nicholson Street, SE, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival police located 39-year-old Leonard Matthews, of the 4600 block of East Capitol Street, SE, suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. He was taken to the Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead.

A subsequent investigation indicated that Mr. Matthews and his son 20-year-old Leonard Williams, also of the East Capitol Street address, apparently became involved in an argument. It was at this time that Mr. Williams allegedly stabbed his father.

He was arrested on the scene without incident and charged with Murder II while armed.
