At approximately 8:45 this morning, Thursday, July 28, 2005, members of the Metropolitan Police Department's (MPDC) Major Narcotics Unit and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as part of continuing drug investigations, executed a search warrant at a private residence located at 772 Harvard Street, NW. When a DEA agent forced entry through the front door he was forced to shoot and kill a charging pit bull dog. Also, an MPDC narcotics officer who forced entry through the basement door was confronted by a man who reportedly pointed a handgun at the officer. Consequently, the officer was forced to fire his service weapon striking the gunman in the abdomen.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Ray Salvatera, of the Harvard Street address, was taken to the Washington Hospital Center's MedSTAR Unit where he was admitted in stable condition.
Salvatera has been charged with Assault on a Police Officer While Armed. Also arrested on the scene was 23-year-old Jasime Jackson, who also resides at the Harvard Street address. He has been charged with Possession of Marijuana.
Recovered at the scene were three handguns, a quantity of marijuana, cash, money counter and drug paraphernalia.
The narcotics officer has been identified as 39-year-old Allee Ramadhan, a 15-year veteran of the police department. He has been placed on routine administrative leave with pay.
As in keeping with departmental policy, the circumstances of the shooting are under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Force Investigations Team.
