Traffic Fatality on Eastern Avenue, NE

At approximately 10:37 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2005, a 1987 Ford Bronco being occupied by an unknown number of persons was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Eastern Avenue, NE. While in the 500 block of Eastern Avenue, the vehicle reportedly entered into the northbound lanes of travel which caused it to strike a 2001 Chrysler Concord occupied by two individuals that was parked on the east curb. The Ford Bronco then struck a Dodge Charger occupied once which was traveling northbound. The Ford Bronco continued to travel southbound in the northbound lanes and subsequently struck a female pedestrian who was preparing to enter the driver's side of the Chrysler. After striking the pedestrian the Ford traveled back into the southbound lanes of travel and subsequently fled south on Eastern Avenue without stopping or making their identity known. The vehicle was located in the 5700 block of Dix Street, NE, a short time later. The pedestrian was transported to the DC Medical Examiner's Office where she was pronounced dead.

The victim in this case has been identified as 27-year-old Ericka Dark of the 3500 block of Jay Street, NE. There appeared to be no serious injuries to the other individuals involved in this incident.

Charges are pending in this case which remains under active investigation by members from the department's Major Crash Investigations Unit.
