Over the past several months, a number of robberies of or at hotels have taken place in the Northwest section of the city. On the evening of Tuesday, September 27, 2005, a subject wanted on a warrant for Parole Violation, unrelated to the hotel robberies, surrendered himself to police at the Metropolitan Police Department's Second District Detectives' Office.
After a subsequent ongoing investigation, detectives from the Superintendent of Detectives Division charged the subject with Armed Robbery in connection with the robberies of or at five hotels. Following are the locations of the alleged robberies:

Topaz Hotel, 1733 N Street, NW at 6:15 am on August 7, 2005

Savoy Hotel, 2505 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, at 10:30 pm on August 25, 2005
The suspect in this case is identified as 24-year-old George Cornelius Haynes, whose last known address was the 1400 block of U Street, NW. He will be arraigned on Thursday, September 29, in DC Superior Court.
The investigation into the robberies is continuing.
