Homicide at 1720 Savannah Street, SE

At approximately 1:32 am, on Friday, October 14, 2005, Metropolitan Police were called to the 1700 block of Savannah Street, SE, for the sounds of gunshots.  Upon arrival, police located two men lying in front of 1720 Savannah Street, SE, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

 

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported one victim, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, to an area hospital. He has been admitted in critical condition. The second victim was also found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was subsequently transported to the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead. That victim has been identified as 22-year-old William Cureton, of the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue, SE. The name of the other victim is being withheld because he is considered a witness in this case. 

 

The case is under investigation by members of the MPDC's Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police (202) 727-9099.

 

The department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
