Suspect In Georgetown Double Shooting Apprehended

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, two adult males were shot during the commission of a robbery while inside of a restaurant located at 1070 31st Street, NW. The victims survived their injuries.

Within a few days, Second District detectives investigating the case developed a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant charging 38-year-old Zachary Jay Wages Sr., with Assault With Intent to Kill (AWIK). The department sought the public's assistance in apprehending the suspect and released a photograph of Wages on June 12th.

Earlier this week, a citizen advised Officer James Wilson of the Fourth District that Wages had been seen in the area of Sherman Avenue, NW. Shortly after 1:00 this morning, Officer Wilson and his partner, Robert Braxton, spotted Wages in a 1990 Buick Skylark being operated by a woman in the vicinity of Sherman Avenue and Park Road, NW. The officers effected a traffic stop in the 3300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, NW and apprehended Wages without incident. A handgun was also recovered from the auto at that time. In addition to the other charge, Wages is charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License (CPWL).

Wages companion, 31-year-old Kimberli Price, of the 7700 block of Bender Road in Landover, Maryland, was also placed under arrest. She has also been charged with Carrying a Pistol Without a License.

Wages and Price are scheduled to be arraigned today in D.C. Superior Court .
