Fatal Shooting On W Street, SE

On Saturday, August 26, 2000, at approximately 3:15 a.m., police and DCFD emergency medical technicians responded to the 1500 block of W Street, SE for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in front of 1519 W Street.

The victim, who has been identified as 37-year-old Wayne Herbert Shorter, of the 1400 block of Southern Avenue in Temple Hills, Maryland, was transported to D.C. General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:43 a.m. The remains were then taken to the D.C. Medical Examiner's Office.

The case is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to the department's Seventh District . Anyone who has information regarding this case is asked to call detectives at 202-698-1276 or the D.C. Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777 .

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a TEN THOUSAND-DOLLAR REWARD to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
